Intermodal Transport Services

Teaching the basics of traffic and transport logistics as well as solution competences for logistical problems and questions of freight transport. At the macro level, the edges and nodes of the considered systems are presented. Following this introduction, the transport modes road, rail, water, and air are systematically examined with regard to their specific characteristics and requirements and handling concepts and the load units and loading equipment used are presented. In addition to approaches for planning and modeling freight transports, the nodes of macro logistics systems and operator concepts, as well as business models, services and strategies of the actors involved, are analyzed. During the course, guest lectures by leading representatives of the actors involved in international transport chains will underline the practical relevance of the topic. A case study provides an in-depth insight into transportation management and complements the theoretical knowledge.
