International Macroeconomics and Finance

This course covers selected topics in the field of international macroeconomics. The course focuses on applied theory and empirical stylized facts. A first set of topics deals with exchange rates. For instance, determinants of exchange rates and the pass-through of exchange rate changes into prices are discussed. Another part is concerned with global capital allocations, including cross-border investment, home bias, tax havens, and currency compositions. Finally, sovereign defaults are discussed. Overall, the course aims to make participants familiar with the topics and questions of current state of research in the field and to learn about the data, analytical approaches and tools that are currently being used.
