This lecture offers an introduction and overview of topic areas and principles of digital philology as well as its place and contribution to the wider domain of the Digital Humanities. The lecture starts with a historical overview of the different research areas of philology before the digital turn. It gives students a first view of the relationship between research in traditional and digital philoogy based on examplary topics from the history of philology. The lecture is going to explore digital theory and methodology as well as examples of research projects showcasing research questions in digital philology. Course assessment In the course of the semester, students are going to be presented with tasks and reading assignments via moodle. Together with a final moodle exam that will be an on-site bring your-own-device exam, successful completion of tasks can contribute via a bonus system to the final grade. More information on the contents and the assessment schedule of the lecture as well as the syllabus will be published on moodle on the first day of class. You will be notified when the moodle course becomes available.
