The course introduces predictive, accelerated design, and advanced processing techniques relevant to innovative future materials with improved functionalities as well as potential energy and carbon benefits. The materials for the topic of interest can be listed as: • Historical materials development cycle, materials evolution: Challenges and Innovations in the 21st century • Material knowledge: Library preparation through high throughput computational, processing, and characterization techniques. • Exploring the science of predicting novel materials and enhancing this understanding through practical case studies. • Materials for 5G Society and Industry 5.0 such as electromagnetic noise suppression materials and materials for magnetic recording • Recent applications of materials for electronics, wireless communication, optics and photovoltaics 2 • Shape memory materials, for biomedical, aviation, sensor, textile applications • Alternative cooling technologies for a carbon natural society • Magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications: theragnostic, targeted therapies • Magnetic nanoparticles for sustainable catalysts • Hydrogen in future production of green steel • From lab to fab: a case study on research and commercialization of rare-earth-free magnets • Each semester one industry visit is planned (e.g., Vacuumschmelze, Evonik, Merck, Magnotherm)
