Methods and Techniques for Natural Language Processing

The course Methods and Techniques of Natural Language Processing (NLP) serves as an introduction to theory and methodology of corpus and computational linguistics. The course will guide students through methods and techniques of processing natural language data at different levels of linguistic organization. For each content unit a reading assignmemt and - if suitable - an impulse video that introduces a topic area will be made available via moodle for self-study in preparation for a weekly class. The reading assignments will consist of chapters from established books as well as papers from major conferences depending on the topics to be discussed. At a number of points during the semester, students will be given assignments to monitor progress as well as assignments to be submitted for assessment. Details of the course organisation will be presented in the first meeting. More information on the course contents as well as a syllabus will be published on moodle. The moodle course for this class will become available online at the beginning of the semester. Course assessment: In the course of the semester, students are going to be presented with tasks and reading assignments via moodle. Together with a final moodle assessment that will be an on-site bring your-own-device exam, the tasks contribute via a bonus system to the final grade.
