In short

TUPlan has no user accounts. We collect no name, no matriculation number, no email address and no individual grades.

Grade data

The distributions shown here are cohort-level aggregates that TUCaN already displays to every enrolled student in the Notenspiegel view. The browser extension reads that table and nothing else — never names, matriculation numbers, individual grades or session cookies.

The extension only activates on tucan.tu-darmstadt.de, and only sends anything when you press the report button.

What is sent: course number, title and term, the count for each grade, the average TUCaN states, the number of results available, and the counts for missing and differently-graded results. Nothing else.

In the other direction, the extension shows the reported grade average beside courses inside TUCaN. To do that it downloads the whole public grade summary once per page load — the same file for everyone, currently around 14 KB compressed — and matches it inside your browser. Our server does not learn which courses you are looking at: the request contains no course number.

Ratings

For thumbs up/down, your browser generates a random id and keeps it locally. It identifies a browser, not a person, and is sent only so that voting again updates your vote rather than duplicating it. Clearing site data removes it.

Your timetable

Your plan lives entirely in the address bar, which is why sharing one is a plain link and needs no account. So that it is still there next time, your browser also keeps the ids of the courses you picked locally. That copy never leaves your browser; "clear plan" and clearing site data both remove it.

Server logs

Like any web server we process IP addresses transiently to rate-limit the anonymous write endpoints. They sit briefly in our host’s request logs; we keep them no longer than that, and they are never associated with a rating or a report.

Traffic measurement

We count page views with Vercel Analytics. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser: each request is reduced to an anonymous identifier that lasts a single day and cannot be worked back to a person. It tells us which pages get opened, never who opened them.

No advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, nothing sold on. The counts are joined to nothing else you do here — not a rating, not a grade report, not your plan.

Error reports

When a page crashes in your browser, TUPlan sends us a technical error report: the error message, the stack trace, and the path of the page it happened on.

Deliberately not included: the parameters in the address. A planner link contains your plan and a compare link contains the courses you are weighing up, and neither belongs in our logs merely because a page crashed. We log "/de/planner", never which courses were in it. Also not included: your rating identifier, your browser, or your IP address.

The reports go into the same server logs as every other error and are joined to nothing else you do here.
