The discourse analysis project is an individual academic assignment that you complete under my supervision. As for the choice of topic, there is ample discretion in what you may study, provided it falls into my field of expertise, which is political science with a specialization in international relations. The basic idea is that you apply the methods skills that you acquired in the Data and Discourse Master to the study of political discourse with an international dimension. There is no pre-given list of topics or questions to study, because identifying a suitable research question is part of the training process. Therefore, please suggest one or two research questions in the area of international relations that you might want to address along with the text corpus (or corpora) that would be suitable as data source. We will then continue our conversation from there, making adjustments if necessary. I am available for personal meetings to discuss your paper, either in my office at TU Darmstadt (S3/12/431), or via Zoom. The deadline for the resulting research paper, which normally should be in the range of 4,000 to 5,000 words, is 30 September.
