In this seminar series, we will review recent advances in plasmonics, from a theoretical point of view, putting an emphasis on applications for quantum science. We will start by understanding the fundamentals of light excitation and propagation in various plasmonic nanostructures, particularly in waveguides, nanoparticles, and periodic lattices. After that, we will analyze the coupling of plasmonic modes to quantum emitters both in the weak and in the strong light-matter coupling regimes. We will later move on to more advanced topics, namely macroscopic quantum effects in plasmonic systems such as lasing and Bose-Einstein condensation. We will finalize with an outlook on how plasmonic metasurfaces may be employed to create topological systems that are robust to imperfections, and with a discussion on the quantum geometry that emerges when studying the eigenstate space of plasmonic lattices.
