New course title 24/25: Soft Matter and Interfacial Phenomena Phenomena at the fluid-solid boundary play an important role in many technical applications such as lubrication, microfluidics, biotechnology or printing. The lecture focuses on the fundamental aspects. Topics include: • Liquid surfaces, • thermodynamics of interfaces, • the electric double layer, • surface forces, • contact angle, wetting, • evaporation and condensation, • Surface active agents, • surface modification, • colloids, • microfluidics, • cleaning. On successful completion of the module, students are able to: explain the thermodynamics of soft matter interfaces; explain phenomena at the liquid solid interface in terms of physical and chemical properties; select materials and explain how to modify their surfaces in order to achieve the desired wetting behavior in a technical environment.
