Das Modul vermittelt vertieftes Wissen zu Anwendungsarchitekturen und Anwendungsschichtprotokollen, die im Internet genutzt werden. Dabei werden sowohl verbreitete Client-Server-Protokolle wie HTTP als auch verteilte Architekturen (Peer-to-Peer-Systeme, Blockchains, etc.) betrachtet. Im Mittelpunkt stehen die Abwägungen zwischen Entwurfsalternativen und der Erwerb der Fähigkeit, selbst effiziente und effektive Protokolle auf der Anwendungsschicht entwerfen und implementieren zu können.
